The Marketing and Communications Director is responsible for working with the President & CEO and association boards to set and execute organizational strategies for the marketing and communications efforts of the associations through promoting the mission and value of the associations, the represented industries, value, and events to members, potential members, other businesses, media, government officials, and public. The Marketing and Communications Director demonstrates innovation and leadership, supports the associations’ strategic plans, and maintains a cooperative, communicative, and professional relationship with association members, staff, and vendors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development, Oversight and Management of Marketing & Communications
Lead efforts with staff and vendor agencies to maintain associations’ websites through design, navigation, and content management.
Research, recommend, and implement marketing tools utilizing various delivery methods to promote conferences, seminars, educational programming, trade and consumer-facing shows, special events, and other initiatives sponsored by the associations.
Manage the associations’ social media presence, including marketing/growth strategy and content strategy, working with staff and members to ensure fresh content.
Coordinate multiple weekly newsletters and promotional communication to association memberships.
Manage marketing/advertising plans and budgets with staff and vendors
Work with vendor agency(ies) to manage public and industry-specific media relations, including maintaining association press materials.
Provide graphic and video support and production of materials for use in social media, event marketing (association member and consumer), website, and membership recruitment and retention promotions and marketing of products and services.
Coordinate timing/calendar of all marketing messages and mix across all mediums
Maintain a visible presence and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders such as other state and national associations and non-for-profits, media, marketing, and communication entities, governmental agencies, and businesses.
Maintain fiscal responsibility by working with President & CEO and Board to manage quote process and vendor expenses while working within budget constraints.
Provide timely information and updates to staff, membership, committees, and boards.
Administrative and Other
Support the overall goals of the organizations by performing duties as assigned and collaborating across departments to enrich membership experience.
Participate in the planning and execution of association special events, including but not limited to conferences, trade shows, and consumer-facing shows.
Continuing Personal and Professional Growth
Attend training sessions that will improve the skills necessary to perform responsibilities
Develop and maintain contemporary knowledge of association industries
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, advertising, or related field required or combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience: Minimum two years in communications/marketing or related field; association or chamber experience preferred.
Proficient in website content management platforms, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Robly (or comparative newsletter and survey creation tools), and social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Business, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
Knowledge of graphic design software/tools including Canva, and some database management experience preferred.
Specific Mental Skills: Understanding of the aspects of marketing, such as: advertising, sales, promotion, printing, mailings, design, effective use of social media; ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize information; above average written and verbal communication skills and use of the AP Style Guide; ability to problem-solve and use effective judgement.
Physical Activity: Significant sitting, occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds; ability to travel to on-site (out of the office) locations with some loading and unloading responsibilities.
Leadership Attributes: Professional appearance; ability to represent the associations professionally to members and other constituencies.

MMHRVCA is the umbrella association for the Michigan Manufactured Housing Association (MMHA), a non-profit trade association representing the manufactured housing industry in Michigan; the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC), a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging growth in the recreation vehicle and private campground industries while contributing to the quality of Michigan tourism. In addition, MMHRVCA manages the non-profit Self-Storage Association of Michigan (SSAM) formed in 2007 to respond to the needs of the self-storage owners and operators throughout the state.
