Position Summary
The marketing manager is a key member of the constituent communications arm of the Arts & Sciences communication team. They will play a critical role in developing, managing, and evaluating a marketing strategy to shape and evolve the Arts & Sciences brand, build awareness, inspire engagement and philanthropy, and position our programs regionally, nationally and globally. They will ensure that marketing activities enhance the reputation of Arts & Sciences, advance the priorities of school leadership, and drive the success of strategic initiatives.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy
- Works closely with the Assistant Director of Constituent Communications to articulate clear objectives and goals, and develop cohesive strategies for marketing aimed at current undergraduate and graduate students, prospective students, alumni, and donors.
- Develops comprehensive understanding of engagement strategies at the school- and individual program-level, market demographics, brand promise, competition, environmental issues, and other factors that drive success of each of the different sub-brands within Arts & Sciences.
- Leverages that comprehensive, strategic understanding of Arts & Sciences in conjunction with primary and secondary research to position the school and its programs and initiatives.
- Develops strategy that uses an appropriate marketing mix for a variety of stakeholders, across both domestic and international markets.
- Ensures that marketing efforts meet the needs of the target audiences while maintaining consistent message and adherence to brand standards.
- Develops and implements methods for periodically evaluating and analyzing impact and success of marketing activities.
Integrated Marketing
- Develops and executes a variety of campaigns, evaluate their effectiveness, and present results and reports to senior leadership.
- Specific responsibilities include conceptualizing, acquiring, creating, editing, and delivering marketing content in traditional and innovative ways across multiple channels.
- In conjunction with the College Office, Office of Graduate Studies, and the Admissions Office, execute marketing strategy related to recruitment of prospective students and growing affinity for current students
- In conjunction with Advancement and Alumni Relations, execute marketing strategy related to engaging alumni in volunteer and philanthropic activities
- Creates, manages, and sustains an impactful online presence through social media, website, and/or targeted email marketing to internal and external stakeholders.
- Promotes the activities and signature events of Arts & Sciences to all key constituencies through multiple channels.
- Advises on the use of and manage Arts & Sciences digital marketing tools, such as Google Ads and social media advertising. Stays abreast of current trends and new developments in the industry.
- Gathers and analyzes data from marketing research to suggest improvements for future campaigns.
- Proactively initiates ideas for testing new digital marketing campaigns.
- Writes ad copy for various marketing collateral and promotional campaigns.
Project Management
- Coordinates marketing activities related to programs within Arts & Sciences, for example, marketing the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program, Summer Session, Pre-College Programs, and masters programs, as well as key Advancement and leadership priorities.
- Coordinates content development for alumni- and student-facing web presence, in collaboration with the A&S Advancement team, College Office, and Office of Graduate Studies.
- Acts as a liaison between the communications team and other units on campus.
- Coordinates the creation and design of digital marketing campaigns.
- Provides effective and respected marketing counsel to internal customers across all channels, and guide evaluation of the impact of resulting efforts.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations.
Work outside typical office hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field.
- Five or more years of experience in the area of marketing communications, preferably in higher education or other large, complex organization, with increasing responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communications and experience integrating the latest technologies to support communications objectives.
- Advanced knowledge of marketing functions, including marketing strategy/planning, direct marketing, event marketing, campaign marketing, collateral production, online and social media marketing, and traditional marketing channels and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to apply content strategy, marketing and branding best practices, as well as institutional identity standards, to the development of branded experiences, events, initiatives, and campaigns.
- Enthusiasm and ability to work in a dynamic, highly collaborative environment with multiple functions, audiences, and priorities.
- Knowledge of digital marketing best practices, measurement, and tools, like Google Tag Manager or similar.
- Experience in using market research and analytics insights to develop integrated marketing plans.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with faculty, administrative and clerical personnel within Arts & Sciences and contacts at other institutions.
- Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and to execute creative projects.
- Experience in using CRM systems to develop and manage constituent relationships.
- Experience in using data from these systems to develop and execute targeted communications via e-mail campaign management systems.
- Must possess outstanding organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
- Strong customer service focus and energy, and strong sense of diplomacy
- Familiarity with website management through a CMS
- Demonstrated experience with social media in a professional setting
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and other standard office programs. Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
- Ability to identify, learn, integrate, utilize, and train others on electronic tools that enhance work productivity and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business administration, English, or related field. Three years of progressive responsibility in the area of marketing communications.

Salary Range
$49,000.00 - $83,800.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
