Job Description:
Reporting into the VP for University Advancement, the director will serve as a member of the advancement leadership team. The director is responsible for leading the team that will engage our alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, retirees, students, and other supporters to meaningfully engage with the university to bring about investment time and resources. The director will plan and lead our team focusing on brand awareness and storytelling in a digital first environment. The director will be responsible for the foundation's database, making sure the records are accurate, up to date and secure so the information can be used to build engage and build awareness. The director will also have leadership and oversight of the donor relations plan. This plan will ensure that the foundation ensures donors feel good about the impact of their gifts and would recommend the foundation as a organization to support again.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a member of advancement leadership team – 5%
- Participate in development, execution and evaluation of strategic plan, annual business plan and department work plans.
- Attend advancement leadership meetings and support all decisions made by advancement leadership team.
- The director will work closely with the AVP for Marketing, AVP for Development, Director of Finance and Administration and other foundation and university employees.
2. Supervision and Management – 5%
- Lead worker for the Database Manager.
- Supervisor for the Foundation Communications Manager.
- Supervisor for student workers.
3. Marketing – 65%
- Develop and implement brand strategy to reflect and clearly communicate the MSUM Foundation Mission and Priorities.
- Plan, execute and assess annual communications and marketing plan with the university marketing and communications liaison.
- Maintain foundation website, campaign marketing, donor and impact stories, social media presence, donor recognition, annual report, media relations, email, announcements and invitations, branded collateral.
- Manage and track volunteers' opportunities across campus to increase the number of authentic engagement opportunities.
- Grow the number of authentic engagement opportunities for alumni, parents, and community members.
- Work with Director of Events to evaluate all marketing needs for events such as Night of Distinction, MSUM Giving Day and the Scholarship Gala
4. Donor Relations – 10%
- Develop and oversee donor relations guidelines.
- Manage the donor relations plan across the organization.
- Ensure donors feel good about their gifts and involvement with the foundation.
5. Data and Technology and Partner Oversight – 10%
- Serve as business owner of Raiser's Edge. Work across departments to gather information and data to improve the CRM.
- Serve as business owner with technology vendors used to execute Giving Day, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, and other branding and marketing efforts.
6. Other duties as assigned – 5%
Required Qualifications:
- Experience supervising and leading high functioning teams in a fast-paced and multifaceted environment.
- Excellent team member.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
