Directs and guides Communications and Public Relations functions and protect and enhance the positive image of Roanoke Electric Cooperative and its family of companies. Maintain favorable attitudes among various organizations, special interest groups, member/owners and the public through effective communications and by serving as an advocate of the Electric Cooperative program.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred or 10 years of Marketing and Public Relations or Advanced Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience
Direct the Cooperative and affiliate organizations’ advertising, marketing, internal and external communications, media relations and public information activities to ensure effective communications, favorable attitudes, support of Cooperative Programs and values, and engage member ownership.
Lead, direct and develop media communications, news releases and PR campaigns and serve as the organization’s media liaison by ensuring regular contact with the media and appropriate response to media request.
Recommend and execute a mix of effective communication channels, which may include speeches and presentations, internal meetings (webcasts, open Q&As, Town Halls), high-touch experiences, leadership messages (written, audio, or video), feedback tools, and social media content.
Find innovative ways to position Roanoke Electric Cooperative and its family of companies in the minds of our stakeholders through proactive storytelling efforts.
Use internal communications as a strategic vehicle for helping employees understand the cooperative’s goals and foster engagement with leaders.
Direct the Key Account Program for the Cooperative and its subsidiaries and work with local economic development professionals to improve quality of life throughout the region.
Keep up to date on legislative and regulatory issues that affect the Cooperative and its members and meet with legislators to insure they understand the views and interests of the Cooperative, its subsidiaries, and their member-owners/customers.
Represent the Cooperative at meetings of public officials and legislators and attend such meetings where issues of concern to the Cooperative are on the agenda and present the viewpoint of the Cooperative and its members as appropriate.
Direct all external affairs including events such as annual meeting, town hall forums, and representation at trade shows.
Develop yearly goals and annual budget for marketing and public relations and manage the expenditures in yearly budget.

Roanoke Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit electric utility serving more than 14,000 members in seven rural northeastern North Carolina counties.
The cooperative is currently recruiting for a successful candidate to serve as the organization’s VP, Marketing and Public Relations. The successful candidate—who will report directly to the president and CEO--will direct and guide the cooperative’s marketing and public relations functions and protect and enhance the positive image of Roanoke Electric Cooperative and its family of companies.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree plus 10 years’ experience with solid knowledge of social media, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a track record of success in marketing and public relations campaigns through various channels.
