Reporting to the Executive Director of Public Relations, the Assistant Director, Social Media assists the Executive Director in developing and managing the social media strategy for Columbia Business School. The strategy should strengthen the institutionâ€™s brand and build community and engagement among the Schoolâ€™s key audiences â€" including but not limited to prospective students, current students, alumni and media â€" by increasing visibility of the Schoolâ€™s strategic priorities, student experiences, alumni successes, and faculty thought leadership and research. This individual will meet core and partnership values of teamwork, integrity, accountability, and respect.
Work with the Executive Director to develop social media strategies that achieve the Schoolâ€™s social media goals, in service of the larger brand and School goals. Execute tactics to engage current students, prospective students, and other key audiences regularly.
Write compelling, engaging, and accurate social media content to post daily across the Schoolâ€™s primary social platforms, which currently include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Serve as point person for live coverage of both on- and off-campus School events. Includes frequent attendance at events, as well as working with various School teams to ensure effective pre- and post-event coverage across the Schoolâ€™s social platforms. â€¨
Work with the Executive Director to identify trends in social media content and seize opportunities to post relevant faculty commentary that will elevate the schoolâ€™s thought leadership. Work with the editorial team and the Vice Dean for Research to develop faculty influencers on sites such as LinkedIn. Manage other strategies to push thought leadership to key audiences like current students, prospective students, journalists, and business practitioners.
Identify social media related risks and propose creative, thoughtful solutions. Work closely with the Executive Director to manage monitoring efforts during crisis communications situations to ensure social messaging and activity are incorporated into broader crisis communications strategy.
Identify new opportunities in the social media realm and make recommendations for changes to the Schoolâ€™s strategy and tactics. Strategically experiment with new and alternative outlets and ways to leverage social media activities.
Monitor, measure, and analyze impact of social media efforts to determine effectiveness through relevant monitoring tools. Regularly provide feedback and insights gained from social media monitoring and analysis.
Monitor trends in social media usage, tools, and applications as a whole and within the educational sector and by peer schools. Effectively apply knowledge to increase the value of social media within the School.
Work in partnership with the Schoolâ€™s marketing division to ensure alignment between organic and paid social media campaigns.
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required, preferably in marketing, communications, or related field. Minimum 2-4 years related experience required, preferably with online marketing and communications experience that includes experience in social media management.
Strong understanding of digital technology and social media required. Experience utilizing social media tools and platforms to achieve organizational objectives and experience developing and maintaining social media networks and relationships required. Must have experience working with social media dashboards and monitoring tools such as Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, etc. Superior writing, editorial, content creation and organizational skills required. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully collaborate with stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of seniority. Sound judgment and attention to detail required. Must have strong communication skills and ability to multi-task. Must have ability to work in fast paced environment with poise and professionalism. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
