The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for the leadership of the Sales, Marketing, Catering/Conference Services, Revenue Management and Reservations departments to achieve individual department booking goals and total revenue budget.
The incumbent is responsible for the entirety of the sales efforts. The Director of Sales & Marketing will also serve as an ambassador for the brand and service vision in all aspects of the sales process and focuses on building long-term, value-based relationships that enable achievement of the property owner’s sales & revenue goals. The incumbent is responsible for the evaluation of the department’s participation in the various sales channels (e.g., Regional Sales, Property Sales, Catering Sales, electronic lead channels, etc.) and develops strong working relationships to proactively position and market our client's business.
The Director of Sales & Marketing has overall responsibility for the sales and revenue generation for the entire resort. This person has a main objective of keeping all of the associates gainfully (full time employment) employed throughout the year based on the achievement of our financial targets.
Develop an annual sales plan that clearly identifies multiple big picture strategies for our client to exceed its annual revenue targets and expectations
Offer ongoing sales training to keep the sales team on the cutting edge of sales and marketing trends
Provides customer intelligence in evaluating the market and economic trends that may lead to changes in sales strategy to meet or exceed customer expectations
Assist all departments with revenue generation and all upsell opportunities
Suggests innovative marketing ideas and develops deployment strategies to continue to grow market share
Lead by example, act as an ambassador of the brand and Service Vision in all aspects of generating leads for the sales team
Identifies public relations opportunities and coordinates activities to support the overall marketing communication strategy
Understand the culture and expectations, support and demonstrate at all times
Monitors the effective resolution of guest issues that arise as a result of the sales process by creating mechanisms to channel issues to property leadership and/or other appropriate stakeholders
Be a role model and leader in the community as well as the company
Develops strong community and public relations by maintaining property participation in local, regional and national tradeshows and client events
Always live by the credo that “Failure is not an Option” this means constantly looking for new improved, out of the box, better ways to conduct business
Supports the General Manager & ownership by coordinating Public Relations in crisis communications
Gains understanding of the primary target customer and service expectations; serves the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns to offer better business solution both prior to, and during the scheduled event
Executes the sales strategy in order to meet individual booking goals for both self and staff
Provides day to day leadership to associates to achieve sales objectives with overall responsibility for achieving booking goals and property revenues
Produce ROI analysis for each marketing/ advertising campaign. Identification and development of tracking mechanisms to achieve the ROI analysis.
Oversee global creative for all outlets and provide creative direction, copywriting, and design on projects to ensure consistency, service and quality.
Establish and maintain graphic image and brand identities across all initiatives.
Direct and lead high-profile projects.
Provide proactive communication methods to interact with associates throughout the life cycle of projects.
Act as company expert for creative leadership in marketing
Managing the brand’s marketing plans and implementing its tactics, including advertising, promotions, communications and more.
Negotiate all media contracts and added value merchandising.
Successfully managing outside resources, i.e., print houses, critical to the achievement of the brand’s goals.
Development of the annual marketing plan including situation assessment, brand objectives, strategies and marketing programs
Unearthing consumer insights that can be used to develop more powerful consumer communications and brand programming
Recommending incremental opportunities to grow brand volume
Manages marketing timelines, monitoring all functional areas that have input into the marketing initiative, to ensure flawless execution of marketing programs.
Advertising, PR, Events, and Research to drive marketing strategy and execution.
Coordinating with other directors to optimize positioning, messaging, and marketing strategy across the company.
Leading the brand planning process – both long-term and short term.
Is responsible for the achievement of overall budget to include revenues, occupancy levels and ADR.
Is responsible for the sales managers achieving/exceeding their individual future bookings and consumption targets.
Is responsible for being at all times and role model in the community and a fine ambassador for the company.
Is responsible for accurate record keeping and proper contracting processes and documentation as it relates to group conference business.
Is responsible for keeping an updated Suggested Selling Guideline in place between sales, catering, and conference services that insures consistently of selling strategies and methodologies and a team focus on the overall resort budget achievement.
Is responsible for ongoing training, improvement and development of the sales managers.
Is responsible for timely report generation and distribution to include pace reports, forecast, month ends, incentive payouts, sales manager sales targets, and P&L review.
Is responsible for insuring all sales team members understand and respect our client's values and hospitality standards and well as culture.
Minimum of 5 years executive sales leadership experience at a luxury four season resort, hotel, or conference center property
Minimum of 10 years of luxury resort sales experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Hospitality or a related field
Ability to travel in the field throughout the year with the staff to assist, coach, and counsel
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours
Ability to train and develop associates on sales techniques and resort products and services
Strong leadership and management skills; Leads by example and sets the tone
Ability to multi-task and effectively handle multiple projects
The highest ethics and morals standards; has incredible honesty and integrity
Ability to provide professional work relationships with many different personality types
A true team player committed to big picture thinking and supporting the operation
Still actively involved in selling, consistently makes sales calls and generates leads and business for the sales team and the resort
