BROAD FUNCTIONS Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, a dynamic regional theater company producing award-winning plays, seeks candidates to apply for the position of Marketing Manager. Working collaboratively with the entire Marketing team, the person in this role is charged with helping broaden our audience base, minimize unused seats, and maximize ticket revenue. The ideal candidate will have experience with package, single ticket, and groups marketing for the performing arts, along with strong project management and copywriting skills. A driven, resilient self-starter, the Marketing Manager fuels the team’s work through a keen ability to prioritize and follow through to achieve desired outcomes. It is an ideal opportunity for individuals who thrive on juggling many projects in their daily work, nimbly responding to shifting sales priorities. This role reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Sales, and interacts frequently with Ticketing, Advancement, and Education departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, develop and implement successful single ticket, package, and group sales strategies for a wide variety of artistic programs.
Create dynamic content for emails, website content, Facebook advertising, and select direct mail through collaborations with Digital Marketing Manager and Marketing Communications Associate.
Serve as the department’s primary copywriter and manage the editorial calendar. Articulate succinct, captivating messages that align with each production, and spark interest in target markets.
Translate those messages across multiple channels, including direct mail, email, website, invitations, and Box Office/Guest Services talking points.
Actively lead department’s efforts to implement a robust mix of promotional partnerships for each production, providing regular analysis to further improve sales efforts.
Determine list/audience segmentation strategy for direct mail, email and Facebook advertising. Supervise Marketing Assistant in the creation of lists, as well as coordinating list acquisitions/trades.
Help identify trends in patrons’ engagement and capitalize on opportunities to develop relationships with audience.
Effective use of the CRM system (Tessitura)—ensuring data entry integrity to allow for targeted, personalized communications with patrons.
Ensure marketing and ticketing staffs are aware of active marketing programs and promotions.
Manage long-running discount sales efforts (such as outside ticket vendors, CST for $20).
Serve as department’s primary liaison to Box Office/Guest Services.
Regularly evaluate ROI of action items within sales campaigns.
Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Minimum 4 years of performing arts marketing experience
Successful track record of developing, executing and analyzing multi-channel ticket sales campaigns
Knowledge of performing arts industry trends regarding package promotions, single-ticket efforts, and group sales
Strategic creative thinking with an inherent curiosity and resourcefulness
Ability to quickly translate research into thoughtful, attention-grabbing copy
Dynamite organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
Proactive and collaborative professional manner—takes initiative, prioritizes projects and exercises good judgement
Savvy at networking to develop external partnerships by serving as an ambassador to the Theater
Thrives by multi-tasking to produce high-quality work on tight deadlines, all with good cheer
Hands-on attitude and willingness to pitch in wherever is needed; comfortable working extended hours when workload or event schedule demands, including evenings and weekends if necessary
Highly literate in Microsoft Office programs (especially Word and Excel)
Facility with a CRM software system—knowledge of Tessitura highly preferred.
Familiarity with Chicago performing arts landscape
