The Direct Mail Marketing Program Manager is a vital member of the Annual Giving Programs (AGP) team within the Division of Alumni Affairs and Development [AAD] at Cornell University. The manager works with the AGP team to plan, coordinate, and implement comprehensive direct mail campaigns for the Cornell Annual Fund and other annual giving initiatives. These campaigns total more than 700,000 pieces of mail sent and 10 or more campaigns per year. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Direct Marketing, the manager coordinates AGP's direct mail calendar, works with a variety of content creators and designers to develop and test themes for direct mail and provides valuable reporting and analysis about direct mail performance, which informs decision-making. The manager acts as a project manager for the Annual Giving Programs direct mail program and ensures a rigorous schedule of projects stay on time and on budget, and are accurately executed from beginning to end. The manager participates in goal setting for direct mail projects and monitors progress against goals, and actively recommends and tests content and segmentation strategies to increase results. The position is the lead project manager on participation level direct mail initiatives, including but not limited to: anniversary cards; Graduate School mailings; and general participation campaigns. In addition, the position plays an integral role in implementing the division's comprehensive multi-channel strategy to aggressively grow donor acquisition and retention.
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience, or equivalent. Experience in a direct mail/ project management/production/marketing and/or fundraising position preferred. Strong project management skills and a proven track record of collaborating with various stakeholders, including external vendors. Must have outstanding communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with both internal and external audiences. Must have incredible attention to detail, be highly motivated, show initiative, results driven, and able to manage multiple and changing priorities. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, work proactively, and with excellent time management skills. Demonstrated ability to think creatively and contribute to the conception of innovative marketing strategies and materials. Proven ability to interpret complex data. Must have the ability to effectively represent the University and to work successfully in a team-based environment. Must be able to work, at an advanced level, with desktop applications, databases, desktop publishing applications, reporting applications, networked informational systems and the Internet. Must enjoy and have ability to work in a complex, fast-moving, deadline driven, and dynamic environment.
Experience with project management software and design software a plus. Experience in a complex organization a plus.
