Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for the School of Communication and Information. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications works with deans, administrators, program directors, faculty, and staff to develop and implement strategic marketing plans for the School of Communication and Information. This position performs professional work that requires specialized knowledge of marketing strategies and tactics including digital marketing and analytics, and requires understanding and application of marketing theories, principles, and practices.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for working with steering committees and individuals across the school to plan the marketing for each academic program of the school, with special emphasis on graduate and continuing education programs.
Operationalizes plans through activities including digital advertising, digital marketing, paid search, Google Ads, paid social, organic search, print, live events, and other appropriate tactics.
Analyzes marketing and recruitment data to assure the effectiveness of the plans and activities.
Provides reports and analyses to deans, administrators, and others; and adjusts strategies and tactics appropriately based on the analyses.
Acts as a point of contact for external marketing vendors contracted by the school.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communication, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates skill, comprehensive knowledge, and understanding of marketing strategy, marketing operations, digital marketing, and project management.
Requires a minimum of five years relevant experience in a marketing or promotions function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have proven project management and teamwork skills and demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
Must have a track record in digital and social media strategy and using analytics for evidence-based decision-making.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer literacy including industry standard software are critical, as are the ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-task.
Requires currency with the latest trends and practices in marketing communications and strategy.
Masters degree in business or marketing is preferred.
